Movie makers suddenly want back on the Pokemon train

Pokemon has within the space of a week become one of the hottest properties on the planet.

So it shouldn’t come as a massive surprise to hear that film studios are among the many businesses looking at the colossal success of Pokemon Go and wondering how that could work for them.

Deadline reports that all Hollywood has renewed the chase for a deal to turn Pokemon into a feature film”, with Legendary Pictures, which was behind the recently released Warcraft flick, tipped to be heading the chase for the rights to a live action movie.

The deal has apparently not yet been closed, however, although it is believed that Legendary has previously been close to a Pokemon agreement, with Chronicle writer Max Landis rumoured to have been signed to write the script.

The site also speculates that the scale of the deal could potentially be in the running for the largest video game film agreement in history – which is remarkable considering it’s on the back of such a recent and not yet long-lived success.
