4K Ultra HD Blu-ray arrives in UK

Owners of 4K TVs now have another (and perhaps first?) way to access Ultra HD content on their screens thanks to the official UK launch of 4K Blu-ray.

12 movies are available in the launch line-up – Mad Max, The LEGO Movie, Kingsman, The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Hitman: Agent 47, Pan, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Life of Pi, San Andreas, Exodus and Fantastic Four.

Ultra HD Blu-ray is region free, however, so plenty more titles are also available on import.

RRPs for the discs aren't cheap, ranging between 29.99-34.99, although most can be found online for 25 or below.

The range of 4K Blu-ray players on the market remains slim, however, with Panasonic's 600 DMP-UB900 the only widely available model right now, although the Samsung's UBD-K8500 is due out imminently. 4K video streaming is available in a limited fashion on some services, although for cinephiles the improvements offered by physical media will definitely appeal.

Rumours persist that a 4K-friendly PS4 will be released this year.
