Evo 2014 Street Fighter IV winner used a PSone controller

A French gamer called Olivier ‘Luffy’ Hay has won the coveted Street Fighter IV prize at the 2014 Evolution Championship.

Not only did he come through the loser’s bracket to do so, and not only did he win using the typically unflavoured Rose character, but he also triumphed using a trusty old original PlayStation pad as opposed to the flashy and expensive fighting stick preferred by many participants.

Fan-favourite Diago Umehara – made famous via this spectacular Evo victory way back in 2005 – finished outside the Top Eight for the first time in the tournament’s history.

There were no such upsets in the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 tournament, however, where Evo hero Justin Wong emerged triumphant – his seventh Evo title.

Evo 2014 concluded in the early hours of this morning at the Las Vegas Hilton. The line-up included Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us, King of Fighters XIII, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and BlazBlue: ChronoPhantasma.
