Since the arrival of Modern Warfare in 2007, Call of Duty has ranked as one of the games industry’s super-franchises.
Even in recent years, where sales have slowed a bit, the game regularly sells more than 2m units with every release.
This year’s title Advanced Warfare marks a return to form for a series that slipped a bit with last year’s Call of Duty: Ghosts.
The game’s Metacritic score sits at 83 with critics almost universally praising the title as ‘the best Call of Duty in years’. It also sold more in its first two weeks than its predecessor, too.
The game – which stars Kevin Spacey in a futuristic world – also sees a new studio at the helm in Sledgehammer Games.
Formed by the creators of hit EA title Dead Space, Sledgehammer spent three years building this new Call of Duty primarily for Xbox One and PS4 – the longest development cycle for a Call of Duty yet.
