Nintendo cuts earnings guidance, lowers 3DS sales forecasts

Revenues for fiscal 2016 are expected to be 12.3 per cent lower than originally predicted, Nintendo has told investors.

The company now believes it will achieve sales of 500bn for the period, which is down from the previous forecast of 570bn. That's also less than 2015's 549bn.

Nintendo has also lowered its sales expectations for 3DS. Previously it has predicted 7.6m sales for the year. That's now down to 6.6m. 8.73m were sold in the previous financial year. As a result, software sales forecasts have also been lowered from 56m to 47m.

The predictions for Wii U (3.4m) and Wii (100k) remain unchanged. Software sales for these platforms have been increased, however. For Wii U it's jumped from 23m to 27m and for Wii from 4m to 7m.

Boss Tatsumi Kimishima has previously said that the company's upcoming smartphone business could quadruple Nintendo's numbers, and that in conjunction with the NX the pair will return Nintendo-like profits”.
