Pokemon Co confirms NX hybrid design; Ubisoft enthusiastic about console

The chief executive of the Pokemon Company has become the first senior industry figure to openly discuss the hybrid design of Nintendo NX.

The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device,” Tsunekazu Ishihara told The Wall Street Journal. We will make games for the NX.”

MCV revealed in August that a Pokemon title is in development for Nintendo’s new console.

Despite the details of NX having been widely reported and confirmed by many outlets – including MCV – the wider audience continues to speculate as to the accuracy of the claims – doubts that surely now will have been quashed.

In other NX news, GameSpot reports that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has also spoken enthusiastically about the machine.

"The new Nintendo [console] is a fantastic machine,” he said at a presentation. It’s really a new approach, it’s really Nintendo, [which is] coming with something new again. We love it.

"We always take disruptions on the positive side. We think each time that it’s an opportunity for our creators to take more risks. When a machine is installed, there are a certain number of brands that take up the time of players, so they’re going to buy the next Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty. Even if they say, ‘I’m interested in what you’re doing,’ at the end of the day they first buy what they know, then go somewhere else.

"When they change machines, they consider that it is better to try what has been done for that machine. This gives us an opportunity to totally change an IP that we have done before, or to create new experiences and new IPs."

The exec also confirmed that Just Dance is not the only NX project Ubisoft has in the works.
