Separate developers confirmed for next-gen and last-gen Mortal Kombat X

NetherRealm is not developing the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X, it has been confirmed.

Videogamer reports that High Voltage will instead handle development duties on legacy systems, with NetherRealm "100 per cent focused on developing for next-gen".

Added Warner: "NetherRealm is not developing the PS3/360 versions. High Voltage is our partner focused on developing the PS3/360 and the team is giving those versions its full attention. All platforms for this game are built on NetherRealm's tech with oversight from the NetherRealm."

High Voltage has ported NetherRealm games before, bringing Injustice: Gods Among Us to PS4 and PC and 2013's Mortal Kombat to PC. It also handled the next-gen ports of Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and stand-alone outing Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell.

It's fairly common for separate studios to develop games across platforms. Earlier this week it was revealed that Rise of the Tomb Raider has separate studios working on the Xbox One and Xbox 360 releases.

Mortal Kombat X will be released on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 14th.
