Switch games dated, new Joy Con and battery pack revealed

Last night’s Nintendo Direct announced a number of new Switch and 3DS release dates, and also revealed two new bits of Switch hardware.

Headlining the dates are Splatoon 2, which arrives on July 21st, and Arms, which will hit shelves on June 16th. Also confirmed was a Nintendo Switch release for online shooter PayDay 2.

Other Switch dates included Puyo Puyo Tetris (April 25th), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (April 28th), Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition (May 11th), Disgaea 5 Complete (May 26th), Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers (May 26th)and Fate/Extella (July 25th).

Namco Museum, Sine Mora EX and BattleChasers: Nightwar will arrive in the summer with Sonic Forces, Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition and Payday 2 arriving later in the year.

3DS dates included Ever Oasis (June 23rd), RPG Maker Fes (June 27th),Hey Pikmin (July 28th) and Culdcept Revolt (August 29th). Kirby’s Blowout Blast will release in the summer and both Monster Hunter Stories and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Psychic Spectres are due in the autumn.

Miitopia is pencilled in for some time later this year.

Nintendo also revealed a brand new Joy Con colour – Neon Yellow. That’s due on June 16th, alongside a new Joy Con battery pack that will extend the battery life of the wireless controllers using two AA batteries. It’s not yet known how much of a boost will be offered over the current 20-hour charge life.

Also revealed is a new third party accessory that may appeal to Switch owners. InDemand Design’s SwitchCharge offers several benefits including 12 hours of additional run time, a stronger stand and in-built cartridge storage. It also swaps the charging port from the bottom to the side of the device, making charging while playing a lot more practical.

The device in currently being funded on IndieGoGo, where it has smashed its $80k goal.
