Tatsumi Kimishima named as new Nintendo president

Nintendo has finally named its successor to the late Satoru Iwata.

Tatsumi Kimishima, who has since July 2013 served as the company’s MD, is the man now in the top seat at the expense of the widely tipped Shigeru Miyamoto and fellow director Genyo Takeda.

Kimishima has formerly served as Nintendo of America’s CEO.

Accompanying the news is confirmation of an internal restructure. Miyamoto and Takeda have new job titles – Creative Fellow and Technology Fellow, respectively – which is to be read as creative director and technology director.

It doesn’t seem for the time being that the roles the pair have vacated (heads of the Entertainment Analysis & Development division and the Integrated Research & Development division) have been filled.

Former Software Planning & Development boss Shinya Takahashi, meanwhile, has been appointed as the head of a new division called Entertainment Planning & Development, suggesting a possible merger of the two roles.

This, however, has not yet been officially confirmed.
