There’s a new Sonic Boom game for 3DS

Sega has announced that another Sonic Boom game is in development and will be released for 3DS later this year.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is being developed by Sanzaru Games, which also handled 2014’s Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. That game scored 47 per cent on Metacritic, with its Wii U counterpart Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, developed by Big Red Button, scoring 32 per cent.

Both titles fell short of Sega’s expectations, selling under 500k units between them and marking a new low for the series.

Fire & Ice, however, will continue to push the accompanying Sonic Boom TV series. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks will feature, while the levels themselves will accommodate both Sonic’s traditional break-neck speeding and slower, more exploratory play.

We really want this game to surprise and delight Sonic fans both new and old, and have created a unique, fun game that delivers,” Sega America president and COO John Cheng said. By introducing unique elemental gameplay features like ice and fire, along with new speed and exploration gameplay, there is a lot to enjoy with Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.”
