Wii U hardware sales up 151 per cent as Pokkén Tournament debuts in Japan

Pokmon Tekken fighting game crossover title Pokkn Tournament has shot straight to No.1 in Japan according to data from Famitsu.

The Wii U-exclusive sold 72,502 units in its first week and resulted in a 151 per cent hardware increase for Nintendo’s Wii U. Last week, the console sold 3,836; that figure rose to 9,644 this week.

Pokkn wasn’t the only new starter in the charts this week – Bandai Namco’s Digimon World: Next Order debuted in second place, shifting 52,521 units, while a new Senran Kagura – Estival Versus Sakura Edition – went straight to No.8.

Last week’s No.1, The Division, falls to third place with sales dipping 69 per cent over the week. Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games rose from No.8 to No.4 though sales fell five per cent.
