Amazon signed a licensing deal for Crytek’s CryEngine that could be worth between $50m to $70m, according to a report.
Sources speaking toKotakuclaimed that the recently teasedhuge licensing deal between Crytek and a mystery firmwas in fact with the online retail giant. It is not yet clear what Amazon plans to do with the tech. Some sources suggested the firm may use is it as the foundation for its own game engine.
The retailer has been ratcheting up its game development plans in the last year. The firmrecruited Portal project lead Kim Swiftand ex-LucasArts creative lead Clint Hocking to Amazon Game Studios, which released its first game Sev Zero for Amazon’s Fire TV microconsole last year. The company alsobought Killer Instinct studio Double Helix.
