A hostile takeover is not on the cards for Polish games giant CD Projekt Red, the company has insisted.
Talk of such a possibility has emerged in recent days after a Polish documented was translated online that appeared to suggest the company was taking steps to protect itself.
Said document claimed that CD Projekt had called for an EGM to discuss the possible merger of its various brands into a holding company and a change to voting rights that would limit the potential powers of big stakeholders,
However, Wccftech reports that the company, whose identity is based on its corporate independence, is doing nothing more than pre-empting entirely hypothetical future events.
[The rumour] emerged after the board suggested introducing a voting cap during the upcoming shareholder meeting,” CD Projekt said. However, the proposal is not a reaction to any current events affecting CD Projek. Rather, it is meant as insurance against future hypothetical scenarios which may never materialise.We wish to safeguard the interests of minority shareholders in a hypothetical case where a major shareholder emerges professing a business and strategic vision which conflicts with ours.”
CD Projekt is the team behind phenomenally successful RPG The Witcher 3 and online games retailer GOG, which specialises in offering DRM-free software. It is currently developing Witcher card game spin-off Gwent and sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
