Dying Light studio Techland cancels upcoming fantasy game Hellraid

The next title from Dying Light developer Techland has been scrapped.

Hellraid, a first-person hack-and-slash game set in a gritty fantasy world, had previously been slated for release later this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

But according to a statement posted on the studio’s website, the title had failed to meet internal expectations, leading to a freeze on development.

Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project,” said the outlet.

Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.”

The developer, which also created the Dead Island IP, went on to say that the freed-up resources would be poured into ‘expansion’ of the Dying Light franchise – little surprise considering that the title’s 3.2 million player mark 45 days after sale crowned it as Techland’s most successful game to date.
