Grand Theft Auto V hits 45m sales as Take-Two raises outlook

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V has now reached 45m unit sales, Take-Two has confirmed.

Nearly 10m of those sales have come from the PS4 and Xbox One versions and the rest from sales on PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC version is currently scheduled to release next month following its recent delay.

2K release NBA 2K15 has to date sold 5.5m units while the Civilization series has, as a whole, now hit 29m sales. Sales numbers for WWE 2K15, or Civilization: Beyond Earth, were not specified.

Take-Two itself reported what it described as strong result” for Q3 which, by default, was always going to struggle year-on-year thanks to comparisons against last year’s launch of Grand Theft Auto Online.

On a GAAP basis Q3 net revenue was down from $1.86bn last year to $531.1 while net income fell from $578.4m to $40.1m. Non-GAAP saw net revenue grow from $767.7m to $954m while net income climbed ever so slightly from $210.7m to $211.6m.

Take-Two’s positive momentum was demonstrated once again, as we delivered exceedingly strong third quarter revenues and profits, and finished the quarter with nearly $1 billion in cash and short term investments,” chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said.

We also generated substantial growth in digitally-delivered revenue, including through our ongoing focus on offerings that drive recurrent consumer spending. As a result of Take-Two’s outstanding holiday season performance, we are raising the company’s financial outlook for the full year.

With our world-class creative teams, robust development pipeline, cutting-edge technology and ample capital resources, Take-Two is superbly positioned to build on its solid foundation and continue to capitalize on this dynamic entertainment market.”
