Harmonix cancels Rock Band 4 PC, ‘disappointed’ game missed crowdfunding goal

Developer Harmonix has ditched the PC version of Rock Band 4.

The firm announced this on its Fig page for the project, observing that there isn't a large enough audience to make developing for this platform viable.

This follows Harmonix's crowdfunding effort for Rock Band 4 and the Rock Band Network failing to meet its lofty $1.5m goal. The company launched this on March 1stand the campaign raised $793,000 – just over half what Harmonix was after.

The studio said it was 'disappointed, obviously' about Rock Band 4 PC failing to hit its target.

We learned exactly what we needed to learn: there doesn't seem to be enough of an audience to make Rock Band for PC a viable project for us right now,” Harmonix said on its Fig page.

We're committed to supporting and improving RB4 on consoles. To be clear, we raised nearly $800,000 via backers and investors; it's an impressive showing of support from our community and for our brand. But as an independent developer we have to be careful about how much money and development time we risk on a project we're not sure has a big enough audience, and crowdfunding allowed us to (among other things)* judge the market fit for Rock Band PC”
