Hi-Rez shooter Paladins hits 11m players

Eight months on since its initial Early Access release and with two console betas under its belt, Paladins has posted some impressive numbers.

The Hi-Rez developed game has now attracted over 11m players, and was the most played new game in Steam in 2016. 2m of these 11m players come from consoles, on which a beta hit both PS4 and Xbox One earlier this month.

These numbers also exclude the Chinese version of the game, which is in testing with publisher Tencent.

Hi-Rez also emphasised the frequency of the game’s updates, too. Over the coming months a host of additions are planned including a new Mastery and Ranking system, lots of bug fixes, new Champions (with a total of 30 being aimed for by August), at least” one new PvP mode, the reintroduction of the PvE/co-op mode and some new eSports announcements.

While some of the press greeted Paladins with sceptical ‘clone’ allegations and clickbait-y headlines, you the Player Community immediately grokked what makes our game unique: Paladins is a team-based shooter but with heavy Customization elements,” Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris said.

In Paladins you define your own playstyle and get just a touch of MOBA with your FPS. Fueled by YOUR positive word of mouth (Steam player reviews, console player reviews), Paladins is now one of the fastest growing games. And we are just getting started. Because there is still SO much we will be improving within Paladins and adding to the game.

The development team is very excited about the updates still to come in 2017, and please keep your candid feedback coming. Together we’ll continue to build a great game and a foster a great community.”
