Rare working on third Perfect Dark?

CVG

reports that rumours have surfaced claiming that Microsoft owned UK developer Rare is hard at work on Perfect Dark 2 – the sequel to the original N64 title and the second instalment of the series to hit Xbox 360.

Sources claim the game will feature a darker, grittier Joanna Dark” and that the moral decisions of gamers will affect the storyline and conclusion. Fingers point towards a release next year.

Meanwhile, Gamesindustry reports that Rare software engineer James Thomas felt that Rare’s 2006 release didn’t receive the marketing support it deserved as Microsoft was so focused on Epic title Gears of War.

I think from our point of view, it was interesting to see how the marketing budget was split last Christmas, because obviously everyone knew that Microsoft were publishing Gears of War and Viva Piata,” he stated.

Yet, so much of the money went towards publishing Gears of War, which is going to sell millions anyway. It was a bit like, ‘what about the other franchise?’ I think we got left in the wake somewhat. Hopefully the PC version this Christmas, it might get something of a second wind.”
