BT hires games writer

BT.com is relaunching this summer, complete with a new video game section featuring previews, reviews, video content and features.

The new BT.com games editor is Ian Dransfield who has previously worked as a senior staff writer at Imagine Publishing as well as a freelancer for the likes of CVG and GamesTM.

I’ll be handling all day-to-day responsibilities of writing – everything from news, previews, features and reviews – creating video content with the help of the dedicated production team, attending events and editing the work of others,” said Dransfield.

The section will be regularly updated, and ‘Games on BT’ has its own dedicated channel – it’s not hidden between science and technology, like you might see it elsewhere: it’s entertainment and acknowledged as such.”

The site aims to cater for all types of gamers of all ages, and will feature both content for mainstream and nich audiences.

It’s not going to be just Call of Duty, FIFA and Angry Birds, nor is it going to extrapolate the deeper meaning of an 8.3 per cent sales slump for some obscure Korean software house,” added Dransfield.

It gives BT the chance to prove that it as a company are behind gaming in a big way – which it obviously is. I’ve kept saying to people ‘It’s an exciting opportunity’ – but I’m not one to mince my words: it’s an exciting opportunity.”
