IGN India to launch in 2013

IGN, one of the world’s most popular games media outlets, is set to launch a localised website for India this year.

The company is currently in the midst of rapid global expansion. It currently operates in 40 countries and is available in 12 languages. In Asia, IGN launched IGN Middle East and IGN Asia Pacific last year, and it plans to launch IGN India in 2013.

This rise of gaming in India, against a vibrant background for the entertainment industry, makes IGN India a strategically important edition in our international expansion plan. We believe a strong community can be built around our leading content in India – especially when delivered with local relevance and voice specific for the Indian market,” says IGN’s business development director Adam Doree.

Rather than setting up operations in India itself, IGN will partner with a local publishing partner to launch IGN India; an approach it has also followed in other countries. The local partner will also be responsible for commercial activities in India.

We’re looking to launch a local edition in 2013 and are in advanced discussions with several potential partners. Our international strategy has proven successful in other markets we’ve launched in – as gamers love locally relevant content.”

IGN recently launched the IGN World website, which lists all the countries it currently covers as well as those that it plans to expand into in the near future. India is amongst a host of countries and regions that are set to receive localised websites in 2013, including Japan, Latin America, Brazil, Russia and France.

The IGN World website also seems to suggest that IGN India will be available in both English and Hindi.
