Marvel has announced that Thor is becoming a woman – and the hope is that the change will be reflected in Disney's upcoming Disney Infinity 2.
"This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of the 'big three' of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor," Marvel revealed. "No longer is the classic Thunder God able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjlnir, and a brand new female hero will emerge worthy of the name Thor."
Series writer Jason Aaron added: "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."
However, Disney Infinity's Thor will continue to be the one depicted in the Avengers Assemble animated series, although the game's executive producer John Vignocchi told Polygon that this could change.
"Infinity being a platform that evolves over time, that certainly doesn't rule out the possibility of creating a new version of Thor,” he said. Should there be a demand, we'd love to do that.
"We want to stay contemporary with how they're representing their most popular character. Vignocchi said that the challenge of keeping up with the ever-changing Marvel Universe is exciting.
"The this is that in the realm of Marvel you have characters evolving and changing constantly. Our intention is to evolve the game over time too."
Vignocchi added that 45 per cent of Infinity players are female.
