No Man’s Sky claims No.1, is Sony’s second biggest PS4 launch

Wildly ambitious indie title No Man's Sky has shot straight to the top of the boxed UK charts.

According to GfK Entertainment, this is the second biggest PlayStation 4 launch for Sony behind Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which hit shelves earlier this year.

It is also Sony's biggest new IP launch on the console. In terms of new franchises across all publishers on Sony consoles, No Man's Sky is the fifth largest behind Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Getaway and The Last of Us.

It's worth keeping in mind that this is purely physical sales - the title was pushed heavily as a digital product too. Thus, its total sales may be much higher.

Meanwhile, last week's No.1 Grand Theft Auto V falls to second place with a 22 per cent dip in sales, while Mario & Sonic: Rio 2016 Olympic Games rises eight places to No.15 with a 12 per cent rise in sales. No prizes for guessing why.

Overwatch rises one place to No.3 with a four per cent sales rise, while LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens sees a 28 per cent dip in sales as it falls to fourth.

Below is the software Top Ten for the week ending August 13th:

1. No Man's Sky, Sony
2. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
3. Overwatch, Blizzard
4. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Warner Bros
5. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Sony
6. Rocket League, 505 Games
7. FIFA 16, EA
8. Doom, Bethesda
9. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Activision
10. Minecraft: Xbox Edition, Microsoft
