The future of XCOM rests with Enemy Within

The grand return of XCOM may be over if no one buys next week’s expansion pack Enemy Within, says developer Firaxis.

But senior games designer Anand Gupta is bullish over XCOM’s future after it made its return after an 11-year absence last year.

The future depends on how well the expansion is received,” Gupta told MCV.

Regardless, the door has been opened. We like to lead in strategy games, so we will continue to do so.

Other studios have taken creative inspiration from XCOM, which is gratifying. So the door is open and a lot of people have seen that this kind of game has a unique appeal.”
