UK is named partner country for Gamescom

The UK is once again the official partner country for Gamescom 2015.

We have been the partner country for Gamescom before, but back then only a handful of big UK companies went. It's a lot better these days with the help of UKIE and its rather large stand.

That will be back, and this time the stand has a distinctly ‘Royal theme' apparently. UKIE says over 25m worth of business took place on its stand last year, which is no small change.

This year the stand will feature a Royal Box, where companies can present their products and services to journalists and other industry folk.

UKIE will also be running its UK Game of the Show again, which MCV and Develop will help judge.

UKIE are also working closely with UK Trade & Investment on an investment dinner, VIP networking drinks reception and high-level delegations from other markets visiting the UK stand.

The economic and cultural significance of video games was recognised much earlier in the United Kingdom than in Germany,” says Dr. Maximilian Schenk, the MD of German games trade body BIU, who co-organise Gamescom.

The result is that the United Kingdom is not only one of the most important markets worldwide, but it is also one of the most important locations for the development of computer and video games. This is why we are striving to strengthen the relationships between the German and British industries.”

UKIE CEO Jo Twist added: Gamescom is Europe's premier stage for UK companies to meet business partners and investors from around the world.

Our stand will be a right royal celebration of the UK's games industry; it traditionally has a real buzz and community feel which speaks volumes about who we are as a proud sector.

With record numbers of UK businesses attending and the UK being confirmed as official country partner we're making a real statement about the UK being one of the best places in the world to make and sell games.”

MCV is doing a fair bit at Gamescom this year, as well. But we'll save that for another story.
