Apple finally launches a game-centric Twitter channel

A Twitter feed that focuses solely on Apple expansive games offering has been launched.

@AppStoreGames will promote not only release dates and promotions, but also highlight the store's extensive existing catalogue. Its content comes directly from Apple's App Store editors, who are responsible for populating its pages and compiling featured app sections.

It's a surprise that this hasn't happened before. Despite often appearing quite cool on the subject of games, Apple has found itself as one of the leading figures in the games industry – or even arguably the strongest.

Games have for a long time accounted for by far the largest chunk of spending on the App Store. In January the company revealed that App Store developers generated over $10bn in revenue throughout 2014, with cumulative revenue since 2008 standing at over $25bn.

Is it a coincidence that the move comes shortly ahead of Apple's reveal event next week where the new iPhone 6S is tipped to be joined by a redesigned Apple TV that will aim to thrust Apple to the heart of the living room games battle?
