Glasses free 3D comes to iPhone/iPad

Owners of both the iPhone and iPad will be able to access glasses-free 3D visuals thanks to a new creation from developer Big Head Games.

It has, in conjunction with Korean tech firm Floorpali, developed a plastic clear film that can be placed over the screen of compatible iOS devices. Compatible titles, which have to integrate the BHG SDK, will then appear 3D to the naked eye.

This is truly amazing," Big Head Games’ business director Dave Vout. "It blows away the Nintendo 3DS for size and resolution, it’s just a huge leap forward.

"We’ve worked very hard with Floorpali to develop something that is cheap but durable enough, this is going to change gaming on the iPad.”

Details of an official unveiling will be announced tomorrow. Yes, that’s April 1st.

Editor’s note: I’ll admit that when I wrote this I didn’t for one moment think many, if any, people would believe it. But judging by the reaction, clearly I was wrong. So in case there’s any lingering doubt, let me clear it up. Floorpali. That’s an anagram. And the story says the 3D film will be revealed in full tomorrow. Which is April 1st. As was clearly written in the story. And if that’s still not enough, here’s the thing – it’s an April Fool. Ha ha.
