Niantic postpones Pokémon Go events in Europe

Niantic has decided to push back a couple of events planned in Europe this August, following the disaster of the first Pokmon Go Fest in Chicago last week.

The developer had four ‘Safari Zone' events scheduled for August 5th in Copenhagen and Prague, and on August 12th in Stockholm and Amsterdam, but has now announced these would be postponed until a date later in the fall.” This was decided in order to guarantee the best possible gameplay experience for European Trainers,” Niantic said in a short update.

Similar events scheduled for September in France, Spain and Germany won't be affected though, the developer added.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope you understand that our priority is to ensure a great experience for Pokmon Go Trainers in Europe and around the world,” the announcement further said. As a special surprise, we understand that some Pokmon that are rarely seen in Europe will be appearing soon in certain European cities for a brief time.”

This follows the first ever Pokmon Go Fest which took place last week in Chicago and which turned into a disaster for Niantic, with people being unable to play for most of the day due to network problems. Niantic offered refunds for players affected by the issue but some of them took it to really far, with an attendee even proposing a class-action lawsuit against Niantic, Ars Technica reported.
