Oculus Rift dedicated mobile version planned for Android

Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe has announced a dedicated mobile version of the VR headset will release exclusively for Android devices.

VentureBeat reports on Iribe’s reveal of the new model during a keynote at GamesBeat 2013.

The headset’s mobile version will be lighter then the original model, and utilize the connected mobile device’s processor to run.

Oculus hopes to have an Android compatible version of the headset release alongside the PC version (or shortly thereafter), which is expected to launch sometime next year.

The company added there are no plans for an iOS version at this time.
