The ongoing string of patent disputes between tech giant Apple and Korean electronics firm Samsung could be entering its most dangerous phase yet.
The Guardian reports that Samsung is attempting to ban the sale of iPhone 4S after claiming that it breaches a patent relating to wireless technology.
The pair famously clashed over Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet PC, with Apple’s lawyers successfully forced Samsung the device on the same day as it was presented at the IFA electronics expo.
The Galaxy Tab can still not be sold in Germany.
At the moment they are also at loggerheads over Samsung’s Galaxy S II smartphone. A court hearing will take place later this month to determine whether the patent claim is upheld and export of the device blocked.
Now Samsung says it plans to file preliminary injunctions in Paris and Milan, arguing that it infringes patents concerning WCDMA – that’s what allows the iPhone 4S to be compatible with virtually all mobile networks around the world.
"Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology, and we will steadfastly protect our intellectual property," a Samsung statement read.
