DayZ sells 172,500 copies in first 24 hours

DayZ has had rather impressive sales in its first day on Steam.

The ultra-realistic zombie title sold 172, 500 copies in its first 24 hours, and saw142,403 players online.

This figure was announced by game developer Bohemia’s CEO Mark Spanel via his own blog. In its first 12 hours, the game was bought an impressive 88,000 times.

DayZ was made available on Steam as an Early Access title yesterday. It is very much a work in progress, still being in early alpha stage, with ‘many’ bugs being found since it released. Work ahead: hard,” said Spanel.

This is the first time that the zombie title has been released as a standalone game, previously being a mod for military shooter Arma 2.
