Early Access game Space Engineers sells 1m copies

Keen Software House’s Steam Early Access title Space Engineers has now sold over 1m copies since its release in October 2013.

The game hit 500k sales in May.

We feel twice as happy with this achievement since it came on our first year anniversary since Space Engineers was launched to the public,” the studio’s CEO Marek Rosa said. This gives us double reasons to celebrate.

We want to devote this accomplishment to our fans, whose encouragement and active participation made this possible. They have been beside us all along, giving inspiration for new ideas and supporting us with their valuable feedback. It is a great thing to have such an amazing community like ours.”

The studio has pledged to continue updating the game for a while longer”.

Space Engineers joins an ever-growing list of successful Early Access titles that already includes titles such as DayZ, Rust, Next Car Game (now Wreckfest) and Starbound.

There have been some Early Access disasters, however, including controversial titles such as Earth: Year 2066 and The Stomping Land.

In June Steam even updated its Early Access T&Cs to warn buyers that such games may never be completed.

Space Engineers was revealed as being one of the first titles to have entered into a revenue sharing agreement with YouTubers – specifically, Yogscast – as part of a planned coverage schedule.
