Fortnite’s battle royale mode hits 10m players in two weeks

Epic Games has announced that its controversial Battle Royale mode for Fortnite has already hit 10m players in just two weeks. The game also peaked at 525,000 concurrent players on Monday, with 3.7m active users on that day alone. 

To celebrate the milestone, Epic released an infographic, detailing (among other facts) that gamers have currently racked up over 44m hours of play time.

Fortnite’s battle royale mode has come under fire from rival Bluehole in recent weeks, who claimed the mode was far too similar to the battle royale behemoth PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. It launched for free on September 27th, but has clearly proven a hit with players. 

That said, it still has some way to go before it even comes close to the might of PUBG, as Bluehole also announced yesterday (perhaps in a cynical game of one-upmanship) that the game had passed the two million concurrent player mark – making Fortnite’s achievement look rather pitiful by comparison.

According to the game’s official stats page, PUBG hit 2,016498 million players yesterday, beating its own record of 1.3m concurrent players it set just a month ago. Previously, only Dota 2 had managed to achieve 1.3m concurrent players.

In addition, SteamSpy shows PUBG has already surpassed 15m owners and is almost on its way to hitting 16m, which once again puts Fortnite’s achievements in stark contrast.
