GOG Connect syncs with your Steam library

PC users are now able to link their Steam and GOG accounts and potentially grab some DRM-free games.

GOG has announced GOG Connect. Available via its website, it allows users who are logged in to then sign in again via their Steam account. GOG will their scan their library for games that are available DRM-free through its library. Users can then access a free GOG copy, liberated from the burden of copy protection.

The selection of compatible titles is limited for the time being, but GOG hopes to expand the offer. In fact, GOG describes the current selection as ‘limited-time offers made possible by participating developers and publishers’, presumably meaning that titles could leave as well as join the service.

Compatible games currently include The Witness, FTL: Faster Than Light, To The Moon, Galactic Civilizations 3, Trine Enchanted Edition, Saints Row 2, Shadowrun Returns and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. There are 20 titles in total.

Steam users are already able to add games from other services to their Steam library, although it will load up any associated third party clients if the title is DRM enabled.

GOG is also running a sale of compatible games to mark the start of the service.
