Hi-Rez reveals new game Paladins

Smite developer Hi-Rez has lifted the curtain on its new game – Paladins.

It’s free-to-play, as you might expect. It’s also a team-based shooter, but incorporates card collecting elements designed to boost the ability of your heroes. Paladins is pencilled in for release on PS4, Xbox One and PC with a release due in 2016.

Gameplay revolves around a capture-the-flag mechanic, although teams will also be able to destroy their enemy’s bases. Characters also have access to mounts to quickly traverse the maps.

We’ve managed to keep Paladins under wraps for over a year now, so the dev team is really looking forward to receiving feedback from the hands-on demo at Gamescom,” Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris said. We’ve focused on making something we find fun and competitive, and soon players will help us craft how Paladins grows from here.”

Senior producer Mick Larkins added: Paladins has been a passion project of ours from the beginning. We’ve dedicated a separate team from SMITE to work on it, and while we are still early in development, we know we’re crafting something very special. Paladins is extremely quick, with a great deal of depth in how it blends action, tactics, and teamwork, and we’re excited for gamers to start discovering all it has to offer.”
