Minecraft: Pocket Edition hits 30m downloads as series attracts 1.4m concurrent players

It's probably now fair to say that Minecraft is a bit popular”.

Microsoft owned developer Mojang has revealed that Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which is available for iOS and Android, has now been downloaded more than 30m times.

The feat is even more impressive considering that the title, released in 2011, costs 4.99 – which in iOS terms is an absolute fortune.

The studio also recently revealed that the game for the first time passed the one million concurrent PC users mark. Specifically, it told Polygon that the number peaked at 1.4m.

Interesting at the moment it hit 1m players exactly half were playing single player and half multiplayer.

For the sake of comparison, while Steam recently hit a new concurrent user record at 8.5m. Dota 2, currently the most popular game on the service, typically peaks at about 900k concurrent players.
