Mountain Dew CS:GO League to give amateur teams a shot at the ESL Pro League

MTN DEW has partnered with ESL and ESEA to create the Mountain Dew League, an amateur CS:GO competition that offers qualification to the ESL Pro League.

The competition will start with the Mountain Dew Last Chance Qualifier, which will see more than 7,400 amateur players compete in ranked matchmaking on August 27th and 28th. The top 24 teams from this competition will qualify for the Mountain Dew League, which will run for eight weeks, until the top eight teams have been decided. These eight teams will then play in the Mountain Dew Championship in December, with one team from Europe and one team from North America securing a spot in the next season of the ESL Pro League.

MDL provides a unique opportunity for aspiring professional gamers to realize their dreams on a global stage,” said Craig Levine, CEO of ESL America. With the popularity of esports exploding, we’re excited to partner with MTN DEW and find the next generation of Counter-Strike superstars.”

Esports is becoming an integral part of gaming culture. As instigators in this space, we want to push the boundaries of competitive gaming and enable everyone in this community to take part in the experience,” said Sonika Patel, Sr. Brand Manager at Mountain Dew. Our partnership with ESL is unique in that it gives everyone a platform to participate on a level playing field.”

The announcement comes just a day after ECS revealed similar plansfor its next season, meaning amateur CS:GO teams have more chances than ever to break into the top tier events.
