Need for Speed racing to PC, complete with improvements

EA has announced a PC version of the latest Need for Speed, and promised it will feature a range of enhancements.

Among the perks include support for 4K visuals and an unlocked frame rate. Previous PC Need for Speed titles have suffered from a 30fps cap, much to the irritation of the PC community.

Also on the way is support for a range of wheels and manual transmissions – the latter of which is also being added to the console game.

We’re incredibly proud of how good Need for Speed looks visually, a sentiment we know many of you share, and we’re excited to show you the game running at a higher frame rate,” developer Ghost said. Seeing is believing so we’re hoping when you see and play Need for Speed running with an unlocked framerate and at a 4k resolution you’ll be just as excited as we are.

The extra development time has allowed us to create the definitive NFS PC experience. When Need for Speed launches on PC it will also contain all the improvements and tweaks we’ve made up to now, including both the Icons and Legends updates from day one. The Showcase update is currently scheduled to arrive on PC shortly after launch.”

EA told MCV last month that it was on a journey to regain the trust of the PC gamer”, adding: Over the last couple of years we have focused on ensuring a great play experience from launch and bringing players a better experience on Origin with programs like the Great Game Guarantee, On the House, and now Origin Access. We’re excited about the progress we’ve made, but are always pushing ourselves to innovate on behalf of players.”

Need for Speed will hit PC on March 17th, with members of EA’s new Origin Access service able to play from March 10th.
