Razer has purchased THX, the audio quality company founded by George Lucas

Hardware manufacturer Razer has purchased audio company THX, which is perhaps best known as being a part of Lucasfilm back in the day.

THX was originally created by George Lucas to make sure that Star Wars sounded as its creators intended to when played in cinemas, however after that turned out to be a success the company expanded into other areas, including live music sound quality and general sound quality improvements.

The Razer acquisition won’t change all that much by the sounds of things. THX will still function as an individual company, however they will work with Razer on some upcoming products, which should result in a big improvement for Razer’s headsets.

"For over 30 years, THX has maintained a proud legacy of being one of the leaders in audio technology and certification worldwide," said Laurie Fincham, senior vice president of Audio Research and Development at THX. "With their focus on quality, design and innovation, Razer supports our vision to optimize and deliver the best audiovisual experiences to audiences worldwide."

"Razer has a vision for innovation at every level of entertainment, a vision which THX has championed since its inception more than 30 years ago,” said Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. This acquisition will allow us to reinforce Razer’s leadership in gaming and extend the brand into broader areas of entertainment, while at the same time empowering THX to develop into a global powerhouse, independently."
