This War of Mine recoups dev costs in two days

11 Bit Studios' PC title This War of Mine is already in the black.

The downbeat war survival title recouped its development costs after just two days of availability on Steam, the studio has said, with sales coming from customers spread across 92 countries.

33 per cent of sales came from the US with the UK ranking alongside Germany and Russia as the game's most popular European territories.

54 per cent of buyers are male, with an average age of between 25 and 34 years old. The average game session lasts 82 minutes although one gamer clocked up 15 hours and 58 minutes.

Only 11 per cent of players have completed the game.

In This War of Mine, the focus is shifted away from military operations portrayed in most games,” the Polish studio said. Instead, it is a dark survival game where players control a group of civilians trying to stay alive in a besieged city.

During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, offering players time to craft, trade, upgrade their shelter, feed and cure their people. At night they must scavenge nearby areas in search for food, medicines, weapons and other useful items.

The game is currently available at a ten per cent discount as part of Steam's much publicised autumn sale.
