Ubisoft sent out an email to Uplay users late last night, asking them to change their passwords following a breach of security.
Reports suggest that hackers have been able to gain backdoor access to the Uplay store and have been able to download games without purchasing them. These include Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, which is yet to release for PC.
Ubisoft has taken the Uplay service down while it fixes the issue, and while earlier reports didn’t clarify whether user data had been compromised, an email from Ubisoft to Uplay users confirmed that it had.
‘We learned that data had been illegally accessed from our account database, including user names, email addresses and encrypted passwords,’ the email stated.
The email went on to say that no payment information was stored by Ubisoft, ‘meaning your debit/credit card information was safe from this intrusion.’
If you are a Uplay user and didn’t receive this email, you are advised to change your password right away.
