The last major Call of Duty tournament of the Black Ops 3 season has been canceled due to Hurricane Matthew, which is due to hit Florida this week.
UMG Orlando was due to take place this weekend between October 7th and 9th, however with Hurricane Matthew also expected to hit Florida this weekend event organisers made the decision to cancel the event.
It is with regret that we announce that due to the hurricane that is anticipated hit Florida this weekend, UMG Orlando has been cancelled,” read a post on the UMG website. Regardless of the financial losses, which not hosting the event exposes us to, we felt the safety of our community was obviously far more important. For UMG, the community comes first over everything. In due course we will be refunding all team passes and attendee passes. Our thoughts are with the people of Florida and all people impacted by this storm front, we hope you stay safe.”
Hurricane Matthew is the most powerful hurricane in the region for nearly 10 years, and has already devastated Haiti. Winds of up to 145mph were reported and multiple people were unfortunately killed.
While the storm is expected to calm a little before hitting Florida later this week, canceling the event was clearly the right move. Now the competitive Call of Duty scene will look ahead to the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and the new competitive season that comes with it.
