Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is released in the UK today, but widespread technical issues have marred its launch.
Activision has already had to justify the game’s whopping 7.7GB day one patch. Not only is the download bigger than the game itself, but those unable to access it are locked out of the game’s main mode.
Worse still, even once patched the game is troubled by some significant physics bugs that have led to a string of comedy videos on YouTube.
"We are aware of the issues that players have experienced following the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 and are working with the developer [Robomodo] to address these so that we can continue to improve the gameplay experience for all of the Tony Hawk fans who have known and loved this franchise for more than 16 years," the publisher told IGN.
Polygon has speculated that the game was perhaps rushed to market prior to the expiration of Activision’s licensing agreement with Tony Hawk.
Incidentally, a change of UK law that came into effect yesterday entitles consumers to a 30-day refunds on any faulty digital product. What part that will play in the busy Q4 shopping period remains to be seen.
