Capcom has "no plans" to bring Resident Evil to Switch right now

Resident Evil VII is due out tomorrow, but it doesn't look like Capcom will be bringing its flagship horror franchise to the Nintendo Switch any time soon. That's according to series producer Masachika Kawata, who spoke about the company's upcoming plans for the franchise to Express Online.

I think [the Switch] is a very unique piece of hardware,” Kawata said. However, Capcom isn't bringing Resident Evil to Switch now or anytime soon.”

He added: I'm looking forward to the possibilities of the system itself, but we have no plans at the moment regarding Resident Evil on Switch.”

That doesn't rule out a potential Resident Evil VIII on Switch, of course – Capcom is listed as one of Nintendo's Switch Partners, after all - but it certainly seems like a Switch port of Resident Evil VII further down the line is firmly off the cards.

Even without the Switch, however, Capcom has high hopes for Resident Evil VII, with EMEA marketing director Antoine Molant saying the company expects to sell 4m units on its first day.

Ideally, we'd love to sell 4m on Day One globally,” Molant told MCV. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we're pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it's from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We're not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”

It was also recently announced that Resident Evil VII would be joining Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere initiative, allowing Xbox One owners to play the game on Windows 10 devices free of charge, and vice-versa. Previously, only first-party titles were compatible with the programme, but Resident Evil VII will be the first major third-party title to join the programme.

Resident Evil VII launches tomorrow on January 24th on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
