Crackdown 3’s release window narrows

Microsoft has given a fresh hint at exactly when Crackdown 3 will finally be arriving on Xbox One.

GameSpot reports that Microsoft Studios art director Dave Johnson confirmed in a recent livestream for the game, which is being developed by UK studio Sumo Digital, that it will arrive by holiday 2017 or earlier”.

Also confirmed was the fact that the game will support 4K visuals on Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Scorpio console, which is currently due out around the same time.

Crackdown 3 was confirmed over two years ago at E3 2014. A bit of a fuss was made a year later when it was revealed that the game’s highly destructible world will only feature in the online multiplayer mode as it relies on cloud computing for additional computational power.

Its release was pushed back from 2106 to 2017 in the summer.

Crackdown 3 is a game built for the future with a multiplayer experience that will redefine what it feels like to play games, and as we continue to work on this, it has become clear that our original timeline of delivering multiplayer to fans this summer, while maintaining the size, scope and quality of the game, would be challenging,” creative director Dave Jones said at the time.

Our top priority is to give gamers an experience they have never seen before at a scale never thought possible, and sticking to our original timeline would have compromised that goal.

We know that many are looking forward to becoming Agents in Crackdown 3 and we are committed to delivering the best experience in 2017. This decision was made with our fans and their gaming experience in mind.”
