Hello Games denies surprise No Man’s Sky launch this week

There’s a rumour doing the rounds that Sony could surprise the gaming world this week with a shock release of No Man’s Sky tomorrow.

The root of the chat appears to be the fact that No Man’s Sky is conspicuous in its absence from Sony’s Paris Games Week activities. Sony refused to comment on the speculation when pressed by VG247, which also claims to have words of the big surprise from close sources.

There’s also the fact that a PSN arrival tomorrow would go some way to dampen the hype for its rivals big release Halo 5, which arrives at retail at midnight.

Hello Games boss Sean Murray, however, has taken to Twitter to describe the rumours as false.

Sony’s Paris Games Week press conference will take place tomorrow night at 5:00pm UK time (October 27th).

Murray admitted in June that he nearly announced an official release date for the game at E3, before eventually deciding against the move.

We really wanted to announce a release date. It’s really hard to explain,” he said. We want the game to be out. If we thought it was good enough we would release it. If we thought it was finished we would release it.

We were going to announce a release date. There are reasons why we began to realise that it might not be accurate for some reasons outside of our control and I don’t want the pressure of that, to be honest. You actually create people being upset with you, for announcing a release date and then changing it. It’s the worst thing, like saying Christmas is the 25th of December and then changing it.”
