Iceland’s football team out of FIFA 17 after payment row

FIFA 17 will not feature the likenesses of the Icelandic national team after both parties could not agree on a fee.

That’s according to the BBC, which reports that the KSI claims to have refused an offer of 11.5k from EA for the rights to the license, believing it to be too little. EA then rejected the counter offer.

"They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free," KSI president Geir Thorsteinsson said. "The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team. It’s sad for the players – but the criticism should be towards EA Sports.

"I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees. I didn’t feel that this was done in a fair and open manner."

Iceland, in case you forgot, unceremoniously booted England from the Euros in the summer. Which we deserved, really. This would have been the first time they had featured in the game.
