Insomniac would love a publisher for Sunset Overdrive 2

Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac games has said that it remains interested in the possibility of making a sequel to 2014 Xbox One title Sunset Overdrive.

As spotted by Destructoid, the studio responded to a question about making a possible sequel on Twitter by saying: “We’d love to, we just need to find a publisher.”

This same question was put to Insomniac president Ted Price by Game Informer in February of this year.

"You’d have to ask Microsoft," Price responded. "We are passionate about that franchise, and we own it, so you may see more Sunset in the future from us. No promises, and no timeline to speak of, but it is something that represents our willingness to create unexpected experiences."

That, coupled with the tweet, does at least confirm that the developer owns the IP. How much can be said of Microsoft’s apparent disinterest is hard to say, although one would presume that had the game been a big success, the platform holder would be keen for more – especially as the Xbox One remains desperately short of platform-exclusive IP.

Insomniac is currently working on PS4 outing Spider-Man, which itself follows an extremely busy 2016 in which the developer shipped a new Ratchet & Clank as well as the GameStop-published Song of the Deep and three VR titles – The Unspoken, Edge of Nowhere and Feral Rites.

Sunset Overdrive released as an Xbox One exclusive back in October 2014. The open-world third person shooter boasted colourful cartoon visuals and an array of comedy weaponry, all of which was ever so slightly reminiscent of its work with Ratchet & Clank. Traversing the environment was big, fast and energetic – think of it as a blend of Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

The game represented a departure from Insomniac’s traditional PlayStation exclusivity.
