Mass Effect: Andromeda debuts at No.1

EA and BioWare’s RPG sequel Mass Effect: Andromeda has unsurprisingly shot straight to the top of the UK Top 40 in its first week of sale in the UK.

The game becomes the third biggest launch of the year behind Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Horizon Zero Dawn, although it can only claim the third best week one for a Mass Effect game, beating just the first title in the series, which released exclusively on Xbox 360 back in November 2007 and debuted in 12th.

Both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 also hit No.1 in their first weeks, the latter being the first to launch simultaneously across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

55 per cent of Andromeda’s sales were on PS4, with 41 per cent on Xbox One and four per cent on PC – although all these numbers exclude digital, of course.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands, LEGO Worlds, Horizon Zero Dawn and Grand Theft Auto V all drop one place to claim second to fifth positions. Microsoft’s Halo Wars 2 jumps from 26th to 11th thanks to a major retail promotion, while Rare Replay climbs nine places to 18th and Ryse: Son of Rome is up six places at 25th thanks to hardware bundling.

Switch title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild holds firm at sixth with sales climbing once again. 1-2 Switch gains one place to rise back to 16th, too.

Here’s the UK Top 10 in full for the week ending March 25th:

  1. Mass Effect: Andromeda (EA)
  2. Ghost Recon: Wildlands (Ubisoft)
  3. LEGO Worlds (Warner Bros)
  4. Horizon Zero Dawn (Sony)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (Rockstar)
  6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)
  7. FIFA 17 (EA)
  8. Rocket League (505 Games)
  9. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (Activision)
  10. Forza Horizon 3 (Microsoft)
