Microsoft cuts the price of Xbox One ahead of E3

Xbox One has had another price cut, lending further credence to widespread rumours of a new version being in the works.

An assortment of bundles are currently available. For instance, a 1TB machine with Forza 6, Tomb Raider, Halo 5 and a 25 gift card can currently be had for 279.99. Alternatively you can have FIFA 16, Overwatch and Forza 6 for the same price.

The console with Quantum Break and another free title now costs 299.99. It’s the same price for the white Quantum Break bundle. In the US the machine’s base price has been slashed to just $299 (206).

The promotion is running for a limited time” up until June 13th – which, incidentally, is the day of Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

All of this suggests that Microsoft is clearing stock in preparation for the expected announcement of an Xbox One Slim at E3 later this month. It is also believed that the company will use the event to announce a new Xbox console, codenamed Xbox Scorpio.

Like the PS4 Neo, this machine will be fully compatible with existing Xbox One titles but will offer a significant power bump over the current machine. The idea is that future titles will be compatible with both existing machines and the upcoming models.

There has also been talk of a possible new VR push for Microsoft in conjunction with the new machine, which is due out in 2017. The Xbox One Slim could be released in the very near future, and certainly by Q4 at the latest.
