Nesbox emulator blocked on Xbox One

Microsoft has unsurprisingly moved to block the release of a retro games emulator on the Xbox One.

Last week the team behind the Nesbox emulator revealed that an Xbox compatible version had passed certification and was due to arrive on the console at the weekend.

However, the platform holder subsequently told the team that the app was unpublished globally or from specific markets", adding that Microsoft required it to remove Xbox platform support and republish”.

As Windows Central reports, Microsoft requires that games apps, or indeed any app that is a "primarily gaming experience", has to go through the ID@Xbox program prior to release on the Xbox One.

A release on Windows is still entirely possible, but at least now it is known that simply ticking the ‘Xbox support' box during submission is not enough on its own to guarantee that all UWP apps also arrive on the Xbox One.
